May 1941 - April 1945

In my opinion a good German Armored Division during World War II, I would have liked to serve in the main striker or as a tank gunner. In this small item, we will use in the North African theater.
In support of the Italian armies in a position to defeat in Libya on 11 January 1941 Adolf Hitler ordered the Wehrmacht to send a Speerverband (literally: task blocks) formed from units from the 3 rd Panzer Division. This group took the name of 5. Leichte Division and his command was entrusted to General Streich. On February 5, Hitler decided to send a second division and the next day, Erwin Rommel instructed to assume command of both units and mechanized forces Esercito Italian Regio. Rommel arrived in Tripoli on February 12, followed two days later by the cutting edge of 5. Leichte division, ie 3 and Aufklarung Panzerjaeger Abteilung Abteilung (engine) 605. These weak units oraganizaron some punches to impress the British, who in any case had been ordered to stop their advance. March 11 Panzer regiment landed in May, with 150 tanks, of which 80 were Pzkw Pzkw III and IV. On 31 March Rommel sparked a counterattack, cutting through the desert, and drove the British to the Egyptian border, near the Australian garrison Tobruk on 11 April. However, the attacks against the port failed because the determination shown by the 9 th Australian Division, which managed to even kill one of the two battalions of machine guns 5. Leichte division, the Maschinengewehr Btl. 8, during a counterattack on 13 April. Thus the situation was locked and Rommel was forced to wait for reinforcements and supplies improved, to resume its advance into Egypt.

Advancement of the 39 th section Panzerjäger belonging to 21 Panzer Division in 1942

After the arrival of the 15 Panzer Division in theater, North Africa, 1 August 1941, the 5th Light Division was restructured, taking the name of 21st Panzer Division.
was part of Afrikakorps then under the command of Erwin Rommel Generalfeldmarschall. The Division served for the African campaign, especially against British units initially, but later against various allied units.
When the British launched their Operation Crusader, the 21 ° fought well but was forced back by the 8th. British Army to positions near Gazala in North Africa. When the British continued to press was forced to fight rearguard actions and continuing through the value of the 5th Regiment of the 21st Division, retreating to the Aghelia was successful.
In January 1942, after it was fully replenished the DAK (Afrika Korps Dessert), launched its offensive against the British. At the end of two weeks, the recovery DAK Benghazi and moved about 350 miles to the border with Egypt. The offensive was stopped when the Germans reached the Gazala position, it was heavily mined to Bir Hacheim; back in the 21 May 1942 participated in a new effort launched by Rommell, with which finally took Tobruk, stopping the final Alma Halfa.
During the Second Battle of El Alamein, battles of Gazala and Bir Hakeim (in the latter fought against English Republican Army veterans and Republican People enrolled in the Free French Army) and during his retreat to Tunisia in 1942 Division suffered heavy losses. Was in the vanguard of the counterattack during the Battle of step Kasserine, but was destroyed, like most German units near Tunis in 1943.

2009 Woodplay Catalog Playset

PzKpfw V Panther Ausf. D, SS Panther Brigade, Kursk, USSR, July 1943.
This car has the factory finish smooth yellow ordered all German armored vehicles from February 1943, the dark green paint and brown camouflaged was diluted from concentrated paste and applied to the unit level, in this case with a gentle spray specks. Note that covers the additional track pieces at the ends of the hull and tower. Interestingly, the number of car control in the 2 ª Cía. Brigade, is painted with white silhouetted pieces of track and not on the wall of the tower. Other symbols are not visible in photographs of these vehicles. The crew spotted wearing overalls mimetics in one piece Waffen-SS.

PzKpfw V Panther Ausf. A, unknown unit, Soviet Union, Winter 1943-44.

Their use of the vehicle crew of gray anorak three quarters year-shirt and pants indicated that belonged to a unit of the Waffen-SS, the clothing was regulatory in the Waffen-SS, but usually not wearing the Army staff. In the car, the yellow finish makes this almost entirely covered with a whitewash winter camouflage, cover running out of suspension, barrel and cradle it. It reveals a yellow rectangle as background for the number of the tower, 511 (1st car, 1st section, 5th company).

control Cart PzKpfw V Panther Ausf. A Grossdeutschland Panzer Regiment, southern Ukraine, January 1944.
This car was the regimental commander, Oberst Langkeit Willi, who is seen in the tower in the photo that was taken this illustration the officer who is standing in the foreground, left, Oberst Karl Lorenz has been incorrectly identified as its commander. The factory finish is completely yellow covered with washed up in winter. The emblem faded national cross is painted on the front corners of the sides of the hull in its usual position in the Panther. The distinctive tower is interesting: a small black-the divisional emblem Stahlhelm GD-division and a zero in black. Another photo of the Panther Langkeit taken a few weeks later shows a merged in three colors and the number 01 (attached below). Zimmerit anti-magnetic paste Note the characteristic shape that is applied to PzKpfw V.

PzKpfw V Panther Ausf. A / G, 3 SS Panzer Division Totenkopf, Kovel Poland, April 1944.
This car seems to be a mixture obtained by matching helmet Ausf. A tower with an Ausf. G, this arrangement was not unusual, since the vehicle sent to the rear for major repairs were often empowered to last level. The mimetic is conventional soft mottled colors and application, again, note the provision of zimmerit. The target number of the tower seems to identify the 1st car, 1st section (zug), 1st company. Less common is the presence of a divisional emblem, these are rarely seen in a Panther, but the photos show the skull of the Totenkopf clearly marked on the right of the glacis, as in illustration. Another photo of the same sequence shows a Panther from behind, the container supplies from the back left of the helmet carries the cross national central position, and the skull, below left.

PzKpfw V Panther Ausf. G, 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking, Kovel, Poland, April 1944.
A well-known sequence of photos shows that by this time, the Panther battalion Wiking Division, the application of green and brown camouflaged on plant yellow finish was different schemes according to the company. This cart Co. 4th. spots has sharp edges, especially marked on the plates of the panels. The marks are conventional.

control Cart PzKpfw V Panther Ausf. A, 1 SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler, Normandy, summer 1944.
This car has been identified in several ways, a careful study of the pictures, if however, provides a clear divisional ID: LSSAH currency is deeply zimmerit marked on the side and rear quarter of the tower. The R02 in red and white on the back of the tower and skirts, more often at an earlier stage of the war, identifies the car of deputy command of the regiment, in the top brass regimental. The interesting logo of the tower has also been interpreted in different ways, the colors are necessarily speculative, but the comparison of tones in the original photographs as Osprey were yellow and black. The meaning of the panther and lightning SS style is clear, the circle may represent a target of cannon or a wagon wheel. The mimetic is conventional.

PzKpfw V Panther Ausf. G, probably 11 / 9 Hohenstaufen SS Panzer Regiment, France, summer 1944.

a typical example of Falaise disaster survivors, during the retreat through France. There are a lot of external equipment, the leaves were blended into a normal precaution under a sky dominated by Allied bombers, like a sentinel on duty flak all the time. On the factory are painted yellow and green bands quite marked edges brown. The distinctive tower is not clear: apart from the 6, other numbers can be painted on the back of it, hidden by the hatch. It is not known the meaning of the white disc of the latter. Note the rolling wheels of respect and iron frames for fuel tanks on the inside of containers rear storage.

control Cart PzKpfw V Panther Ausf. G, unknown unit, France, in late 1944.

An example, obtained from photographs, the so-called ambush mimicked applied to a Panther, in this case a flat vehicle more regimental. The mottled effect, which mimics sunlight through the foliage, this deftly managed, apparently, this scheme was very common especially in and between various Panzerjäger Königstiger.

PzKpfw V Panther Ausf. G, 4 º Bon. Coldstream Guards Armored, 6 th Car Guards Brigade, Netherlands, winter 1944-45.

This captured the German Panther was photographed on several occasions, especially in action, along with Churchill's Escape A of this battalion in the area of \u200b\u200bMaastricht, in January 1945. Cuckoo is painted in yellow at the base of each side of the tower, and a prominent ally identifiable star covering almost the entire height of the tower. The factory is yellow whitewashed over. There are also photos on this without lime, with a 153 hand painted on the right rear compartment stores.

tank destroyer M10, 150th Panzer Brigade, Ardennes, December 1944.

To identify false U.S. military vehicles used by Otto Skorzeny unit was used a complicated system, including entries in the XX or XY glasis between the codes of the firm. B, 10, Bon. Car, 5 Armored Division. It was assumed that the vehicles had to travel to the tower turned to the left, in addition to an absurd and complex system of signs with lights, gestures and even bandanas and parts of the jacket unbuttoned, which betrayed a sad ignorance of the conditions winter combat. The ruse does not fool anyone for long; the Panther/M10 B-4, B-5, B-7 and B-10 did not survive long after entering combat on the outskirts of Malmedy.
